Description

Our cast Aluminium version of the original Service Dept (steel) 3 carb inlet manifold for 1.75" SU's as fitted to the 2.6ltr DB2, 2.6ltr & 3ltr DB2/4 MkI & 3ltr 2/4 MkII when new, this was the conversion that allows a 2/4 MkII to race, possibly Internationally as in period.

We have tested this installation on a 3ltr engine as shown in the picture, with fairly tame road cams, 1.7" inlet valves & 1.46" exhaust valves in a ported Cast Iron head & 8.6: compression ratio with the FIA 4 bolt exhaust manifolds we had around 200bhp. After a few months of testing this new design of manifold it is very good & runs well up to maximum rpm of 7000 rpm,

we tried to run a similar system (a steel one which was inclined at 17° and longer at 6" approx ) by another specialist on a race car in 2001, this  popped & banged at over 5500 rpm & gave 3bhp less on than on twin SUs.

we have seen over 194 bhp from a  2.6ltr  using similar components with a cast iron head, and have seen 245+ bhp out a 3/4" race 2.650cc engine so would expect to see approx 270 + bhp out of 3/4+ 2.922cc race engine, on a proper DBD inlet manifold we have seen 230+ bhp on road going MkIII

Sold as manifold & balance pipe assembly with throttle cable bracket to enable use of std throttle cable. Carbs NOT included

This kit is based on the MkIII DBD kit so it can be water heated if needed, but much shorter at 4.875" (123.82mm) length from carb mounting face to head mounting face with 10" (254mm) overall from carb face to the manifold face, so the body modifications are much less than either a full on DBD or long Weber inlet manifolds , it should easily fit inside the chassis frame of a DB2 or DB2/4 with just some minor mods to the bonnet frame & wheel arch.

As the carbs are not inclined you just need another STD 1.75" carb body & float chamber, our Special Dashpot tops & pistons are then fitted (extra charge) or your own converted pistons can be used, you also need a side entry distributor cap for easier installation.

We manufacture adaptors to make the manifold as original Service Dept DB2 with 1.5" SU's

This manifold can be opened up to 2" quite easily but unless the engine is 3 ltr and very heavily  developed it would be better on 1.75" carbs,

We are just seeing if it can made with a downwards 5° angle toward the head to give more room between the air filters & chassis on a DB2.

The main & 2nd picture is a new manifold & balance pipe with original carbs fitted to a cast iron head with Unleaded head conversion, Note: The float chambers are in front (to the left) of the main carb body as fitted to DB2 & 2/4s.

The 3rd picture is the 1st raw casting before machining.

The Last picture is the Original service dept 3 x 1.5" manifold with 1.75" adaptors fitted & a dubious looking throttle linkage, this was actually fitted to an Aston engined race car of the mid fifties !
